I've had the following question asked of me countless times since I left Bozeman:
"How are you liking Boise?"
I'm always fairly reserved when I answer. This weekend, I realized why. I have no romantic notion of Boise...or the state of Idaho.
Utah...is Utah. The Wasatch Mountains are spectacular. Arches, Canyonlands, Zion...it's all enough to take your breath away. It's also home...which doesn't hurt.
Montana...is Montana. Glacier National Park is of course the cream of the crop. Missoula is awesome. Bozeman holds a special place in my heart. Just the name..."Montana"...stirs something inside.
Idaho....is what exactly? I never gave much thought to Idaho. When I was a kid, it was where we drove to buy lottery tickets. As an adult, it's the place I had to drive through to get to Montana. It was just always there. Now I live here. It's strange because every other place I've lived has held some special meaning for me. Not so for Idaho.
Don't mis-interpret me. I don't dislike it here. Boise is a cool, unique town that I'm looking forward to getting to know. On top of that, I grin at the prospect of exploring the backroads and mountains of Idaho this summer. I still have a good vibe about where I've chosen to plant myself for the time being.
But this is all a new experience. I'm learning to embrace a place...I never wanted to be. That looks bad when I write it out. It's not supposed to be.
"How are you liking Boise?"
It's fine. Give me time, and I think I'll like it a whole lot more.

HAHA No worries on just finding my blog buddy! It happens. As for Idaho I think you are right and the love for it will come... never like Montana or Utah but you will be come fond of it. I say check out the Selkirks and you may become more fond. I haven't been there but I have heard many great things about them.
That is understandable, sometimes it takes time for a place to feel like home or special to you. Hell, I hated Cleveland with the fire of a thousand suns when I first moved there. Eventually I became very glad my parents moved us, and now it's 'home'.
Take a drive over to Sun Valley. Or a road trip east to Lava Hot Springs. Those are two of my favourite Idaho places.
(I also love the house dressing at Smoky Mountain Pizza - which you have right there in Boise.)
There's also a pretty cool pet store in the Boise mall - with awesome little puppies.
